Frequently asked
Staying in Hale & Bowdon, FAQs
Is Hale a good place to stay near Manchester?
Hale is a good choice if you want a quieter, leafy base with good restaurants on the doorstep and room to spread out. Ashley Road has a lively mix of independent places to eat and drink, Altrincham is next door, and the tram from Altrincham reaches central Manchester in around half an hour. It suits families, visits to relatives and longer stays better than a big night out in town.
How far are Hale and Bowdon from Manchester Airport?
Around 15 minutes by car to the terminals in normal traffic, which makes Hale and Bowdon a comfortable base before an early flight or after a late arrival. Hale Barns, just to the east, is closer still.
What is there to do in Bowdon?
Bowdon is mostly residential and very peaceful, built up with large Victorian villas after the railway reached Altrincham in the mid-1800s. Its big draw is Dunham Massey, the National Trust house, gardens and deer park just to the west, which makes a lovely day out. Altrincham Market and Hale’s restaurants are within walking distance or a short drive.
