Choosing where to stay

What is the best area to stay in Manchester?

For most visitors the City Centre (around Piccadilly and Deansgate) or the Northern Quarter are the best areas to stay in Manchester, central, walkable and close to the main attractions. Choose the Northern Quarter for nightlife and atmosphere, Ancoats for food, Spinningfields for business, and Castlefield or south Manchester for somewhere quieter.

Where should I stay in Manchester for the first time?

First-time visitors do best in the City Centre or the Northern Quarter. You can walk to the shopping, dining and nightlife, and Piccadilly station is close by. A serviced apartment in this zone gives you self check-in, more space than a hotel room and a kitchen.

What is the best area for nightlife in Manchester?

The Northern Quarter is the heart of Manchester’s independent nightlife, with Ancoats and the Deansgate Locks area close behind. Staying in or beside the Northern Quarter means you can usually walk home rather than rely on taxis.

Where is the best place to stay in Manchester with family?

Families do well at MediaCityUK and Salford Quays (space, The Lowry, the Imperial War Museum North) or in a south-Manchester suburb like Didsbury for a quieter, leafier base. Central apartments with extra bedrooms also work well if you want to be in the thick of it.

Where should I stay in Manchester for business?

Spinningfields and Deansgate are the best areas for business travel, Spinningfields is Manchester’s financial and legal district, central and well connected by tram, with upscale dining and a quick walk to Manchester Central for conferences.

Is it better to stay in Manchester city centre or the suburbs?

The city centre is best for a short trip, it’s compact, walkable and lively. Suburbs like Didsbury or Chorlton suit longer or quieter stays and families, offering more space and value, with a 20–25 minute tram into town.

Serviced apartments explained

What is a serviced apartment?

A serviced apartment is a fully furnished, self-contained flat you can book for a short stay, with a kitchen, living space and hotel-style services like cleaning and linen, but more room and privacy than a hotel. Bills and Wi-Fi are included, and check-in is usually self-service.

What is the difference between a serviced apartment and a hotel?

A serviced apartment gives you a separate living area, a full kitchen and more space, with self check-in and no daily housekeeping interruptions; a hotel gives you a single room with daily service and on-site facilities like a bar or gym. Apartments tend to be better value for longer stays, families and groups.

What is the difference between an aparthotel and a serviced apartment?

An aparthotel is a building of serviced apartments run like a hotel, with a front desk and shared facilities. An independent serviced apartment (like ours) is a self-contained home with self check-in and no lobby, usually more space and character, often at a lower price when you book direct.

Are serviced apartments cheaper than hotels in Manchester?

Often yes, especially for longer stays, families and groups, where a single apartment replaces several hotel rooms and the kitchen saves on eating out. Nightly rates also fall the longer you stay, and booking direct avoids the platform fees added on Airbnb and Booking.com.

Do serviced apartments have a kitchen?

Yes, a fully equipped kitchen is a defining feature of a serviced apartment, with a hob, oven or microwave, fridge, and everything you need to cook and eat in. It’s one of the main reasons they suit longer stays and families.

Are serviced apartments good for groups?

Very, a larger apartment or townhouse keeps a group together under one roof with shared living space and a kitchen, which is usually cheaper per head and far more sociable than booking a row of hotel rooms.

Booking direct & value

Why should I book direct instead of through Airbnb or Booking.com?

Booking direct at stay.citysuperhost.com gets you the same apartments without the guest service fee Airbnb adds or the markup baked into Booking.com, so the price is lower. You also deal directly with the local team for check-in, questions and changes.

Is it cheaper to book direct with City Superhost?

Yes, direct rates skip the OTA service fees, so the total is lower than the same apartment on Airbnb or Booking.com, and longer stays get reduced weekly and monthly rates automatically.

Is it safe to book direct with City Superhost?

Yes, City Superhost is an established, family-run Manchester management company, rated 4.8 on Airbnb and 9.0 on Booking.com. Direct payments are processed securely, and you get a confirmed booking and a real UK-based team to contact.

What is included in the price?

The price includes the apartment, all utility bills, Wi-Fi, a fully equipped kitchen and the cleaning fee where applicable, shown as a clear total before you pay, with no surprise charges and no booking fee.

What is the cancellation policy?

Most stays include free cancellation up to 14 days before check-in, with the exact terms shown before you pay. Booking direct means the policy is clear and you’re dealing with us, not a third-party platform.

Do you charge a booking or service fee?

No, booking direct means no guest service fee. What you see in the total is what you pay, which is typically less than the same apartment listed on an OTA.

Getting around Manchester

How do you get around Manchester?

Manchester is compact and walkable, and the Metrolink tram links the centre to MediaCityUK, the Etihad Campus, Old Trafford, the airport and the southern suburbs. Free Bee Network buses loop the city centre, and most central neighbourhoods are 10–20 minutes apart on foot.

Do I need a car in Manchester?

For a city-centre stay, no, walking and the tram cover almost everything, and central parking is expensive. A car is handy only for day trips (the Peak District, Chester) or staying in the suburbs; several of our apartments include parking if you need it.

How do I get from Manchester Airport to the city centre?

Manchester Airport has its own train and Metrolink tram station, with a direct journey to the city centre in around 20 minutes. Taxis and ride-shares take roughly 20–30 minutes depending on traffic.

Is Manchester a walkable city?

Yes, central Manchester is very walkable, with the Northern Quarter, Ancoats, Castlefield, Deansgate and Spinningfields all within a 20-minute walk of each other. The tram fills in the longer hops to MediaCityUK, the stadiums and the suburbs.

How does the Metrolink tram work?

The Metrolink is Manchester’s tram network, buy a ticket from the machine on the platform or tap a contactless card, and it runs across the city and Greater Manchester. It’s the easiest way to reach the Etihad Campus, Old Trafford, MediaCityUK and the airport.

Practical questions

What time is check-in and check-out?

Standard check-in is from 3pm and check-out by 11am, with complimentary early check-in from 2pm included on direct bookings where the apartment is ready. Check-in is self-service, so a late arrival is no problem.

How does self check-in work?

You’ll receive entry instructions before arrival, usually a smart lock or key safe code, so you can let yourself in at any time without waiting for a host. Everything you need is sent ahead of your stay.

Do your Manchester apartments have parking?

Some do, a number of our apartments include free or allocated parking, which is genuinely valuable given central car parks charge around £15–25 a day. Check the individual listing, or browse the apartments-with-parking page.

Are your apartments pet-friendly?

A number of our Manchester apartments welcome pets, look for the pet-friendly apartments and confirm any pet rules or fees on the listing before you book.

Do you have apartments for large groups?

Yes, we manage larger apartments and townhouses that sleep eight or more, ideal for celebrations, stag and hen weekends and family gatherings.

Can I stay for a month or longer?

Yes, our apartments suit stays from a few nights to several months, with reduced weekly and monthly rates applied automatically and bills included. They’re popular for relocations, work contracts and between-homes stays.

Is Manchester city centre safe?

Manchester city centre is a busy, well-frequented place day and night. As in any city, take normal precautions in the late-night bar areas, but the central neighbourhoods where visitors stay are mainstream and well-populated.

Events, matchdays & when to visit

When is the best time to visit Manchester?

Late spring (May–June) and early autumn (September–October) bring the best weather and plenty of events. Summer adds festivals and outdoor dining; winter brings the Christmas Markets from mid-November. Weekdays are generally quieter and better value than event weekends.

Where should I stay for a concert at Co-op Live or the AO Arena?

Stay central and travel to the venue. For Co-op Live, take the Metrolink to the Etihad Campus stop beside the arena; the AO Arena sits above Victoria Station on the edge of the city centre, walkable from the Northern Quarter. A central apartment keeps the rest of your trip easy and avoids surge-priced event hotels.

Where should I stay for a Manchester United or Manchester City match?

For Old Trafford (Manchester United), stay central and take the Metrolink, or base yourself near MediaCityUK. For the Etihad (Manchester City), the Etihad Campus tram stop serves the ground directly from the city centre. An apartment avoids matchday hotel price hikes.

What major events happen in Manchester?

Manchester hosts Parklife (June), the Warehouse Project (autumn–winter), Manchester Pride, the Manchester International Festival, the Christmas Markets, plus near-constant concerts at Co-op Live and the AO Arena and football at Old Trafford and the Etihad.

Where should I stay for Parklife?

Parklife is at Heaton Park, north of the city, with no on-site camping, so festival-goers stay in the city and travel up each day by tram or shuttle. Book a central apartment early; beds for Parklife weekend go quickly.
