Frequently asked
Staying in the Gay Village, FAQs
Is Canal Street a good place to stay in Manchester?
If you want the nightlife on your doorstep, yes. Canal Street and the Gay Village are right in the city centre, a short walk from Piccadilly station, Chinatown and the main shopping streets, and the bars along the canal stay open late. It is one of the liveliest parts of the city at weekends, so if you are after a quiet night, Castlefield or Ancoats are calmer central options.
When is Manchester Pride?
Manchester Pride takes place over the August bank holiday weekend each year, with the parade through the city centre and the party centred on the Gay Village. It is one of the busiest weekends of the year for places to stay nearby, so book as early as you can.
What is there to see in the Gay Village?
Beyond the bars, Sackville Gardens is home to the Alan Turing Memorial, a bronze statue of the codebreaker sitting on a park bench, and the Beacon of Hope, a memorial to people living with and lost to HIV. The Rochdale Canal towpath runs from here across the city centre to Castlefield.
